Ms. Maria Poulson was my daughter's preschool teacher for almost a year. She learned so much from Ms. Maria - not just letters and numbers, but also about how to handle obstacles and be kind to others. During teacher conferences, Ms. Maria presented detailed information about my daughter's development and helped reinforce a consistent approach both at home and at school.
Ms. Maria loves what she does. She's kind and nurturing, and she notices and supports each child's unique personality. I was constantly amazed watching my daughter and her energetic 2- to 3-year-old classmates gather around Ms. Maria quickly and quietly for circle time every morning. I feel so fortunate that Ms. Maria was my daughter's first preschool teacher. - Emilie E.
I was fortunate in having Ms. Maria as my 3 years old girl's teacher. She has a positive attitude and engaging personality. Ms. Maria has the ability to inspire children to show their abilities, and I am confident that she will continue her positive influence on many children. - Rozita T.
Ms. Maria was my daughter's teacher and we loved her caring demeanor and detailed lesson plans. Ms. Maria got to know every child in her class personally and made each of them feel important. One of the ways she did that was by teaching them how to vocalize their feelings and talk about ways to cope with those feelings. She provided detailed progress reports for us parents during our quarterly parent-teacher conferences to ensure we knew how we could best help our children's growth and preparation for the next stage of learning. We absolutely adored being part of Ms Maria's class. Our daughter has grown to be more vocal and independent after having been her student. As parents, we know how to be better teachers to her at home. Any family would be fortunate to have Ms. Maria as a teacher. - Jeanne H.
Ms. Maria was an excellent teacher to my daughter! This was her first real classroom experience, and Ms. Maria made it such an easy transition. She thrived under her guidance, and it was such a disappointment to see her go. Ms Maria makes school an amazing experience for her students! - Vanessa H.
We were lucky enough to have Ms. Maria as a teacher for our daughter from age 2 to 3. She is an amazing educator! Her ability to engage children, hold their attention, and teach them new ideas and tools is remarkable. As first-time parents, we found it immensely helpful that she guided children in learning right from wrong, the importance of following rules, cleaning up after oneself and many other skills that translated to home-life! Somehow, in a class of between 16-20 children, we always felt that our daughter was getting plenty of individual attention and loved that Ms. Maria was able to talk to us about specific milestones being reached. She helped to foster a strong sense of independence and confidence in our daughter, something that we value highly. Most importantly, our daughter would come home from school excited to share the things that she had learned from Ms. Maria! Even though Ms. Maria isn't her teacher anymore, our daughter says, "it's ok, but she's still my friend." Can't get a much better endorsement than that! - Melissa P.
When my little one started school, she had a bit of a speech delay, and this would also be her first time in a school environment. Ms. Maria helped us explaining the best approach to get by the first month, after that, my toddler would run to her classroom where she developed her speech faster than with speech therapy, among other skills. Ms. Maria is kind and sweet even when teaching boundaries to the children, and it all stems from her genuine love for her little students and her role as a teacher, which she embodies in all the sense of the word. - Sheila A.
Ms. Maria is a loving and kind teacher. Our son warmed up to her very fast. She is also very observant; picking up on the nuances of each child's personality and adjusting her approach to them accordingly. I was impressed with how calmly she managed a room full of energetic toddlers. She is especially adept at making shy or introverted kids feel welcome and comfortable. Our son had a great role model in Ms. Maria. Any child would be lucky to have her as a teacher. - Sarah G.
My son has truly learned a lot from Ms. Maria. Within 2 months he went from baby babble phrases to 1 to 2 word sentences, after 3 months with Maria my husband and I noticed how our son was changing socially. He was able to play with kids older and younger, and did not shy away like he did before. After 4 months, he knows most of the colors, very familiar with the alphabet, loves counting 1-10, and knows his shapes! Ms. Maria’s teaching style has truly helped a lot! My husband and I are full-time working parents so were very worried that our son wasn’t learning enough at home but with the help of Ms. Maria we knew he was in great hands! Thank you Ms. Maria for all that you do, you are an amazing teacher! - Leigh-Ann C.
Little Canaan has been a wonderful experience for our family. Our son is fairly shy and was slightly behind verbally and he has blossomed at Little Canaan. He loves his friends and teacher there and we love that he is stimulated and encouraged to learn and explore his world every day. This is a hidden gem on the north side of SF. - Sarah, H.
